Tom Turnspit is a nom de plume that was used by one of Paul Hasluck's fellow journalists on The West Australian newspaper in the pre-war period.
Hasluck said in his autobiography: "Our second book was a manuscript from my close friend Bob James who was taking a keen interest in our venture (Freshwater Bay Press) and supplied the perfect text for tackling the problem of handling footnotes. This publication was Venite Apotemus by 'Tom Turnspit'."
